National Biodiesel Board Applauds Udall Foundation Public Service Biodiesel Bus Tour
B20 Biodiesel Fuels First ‘Green Certified’ Motor Coach

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) praised the use of B20-blend biodiesel in the Morris K. Udall Foundation’s bus tour launched today in Washington, D.C. to highlight public service and environmental and Native American issues. Members of Congress and federal government agency leaders kicked off the coast-to-coast Udall Legacy Bus Tour near the U.S. Capitol in the first motor coach approved by the University of Vermont's "Green Coach Certification" program.

“We are pleased to see that the Udall Foundation and the federal agencies and equipment manufacturers who are sponsoring the tour recognize biodiesel’s valuable contribution to the environment,” said NBB Chief Executive Officer Joe Jobe. “It is only fitting that the bus tour will feature many National Parks since the Park Service’s fleets were among the first in the nation to use biodiesel. Today, hundreds of fleets, including government, commercial and school buses, use biodiesel to benefit America’s environment, energy security and economy.”

The University of Vermont Senior Program Manager David E. Kestenbaum said that the university wanted the bus tour to run on biodiesel and they added the other greening components to the carbon-neutral tour. “The environmentally-friendly concept of this tour was built around biodiesel,” he said.

Biodiesel is a cleaner burning alternative fuel that can be used in any diesel engine in pure form or blended with petroleum diesel. A domestically produced, renewable fuel, it can be made from animal fats or vegetable oil, such as soybean oil. The use of biodiesel in a conventional diesel engine results in substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter.

The NBB is the national not-for-profit trade association representing the commercial biodiesel industry as the coordinating body for advocacy, research and development in the United States. NBB's membership encompasses more than 400 members, including biodiesel producers; fuel marketers and distributors; state, national, and international feedstock and feedstock processor organizations; and technology providers.
