Biodiesel Brings Better Homes and Gardens Green Living Tour
to Atlanta

Jefferson City, Mo. – Biodiesel blends are powering the Better Homes and Gardens and Green Works Living Green Tour to Atlanta as part of a tour reaching major events across the country, including to home and garden shows, San Francisco's Union Square and Grand Central Terminal in New York. The Living Green Tour, which kicked off on February 29 and runs thru October 31 this year, gives the opportunity to fully experience how accessible and gorgeous being green can be and a blend of biodiesel and diesel fuel is pulling the 2,500-square foot "Living Green Home."

"The National Biodiesel Board applauds Better Homes and Gardens for recognizing the environmental benefits of biodiesel for its tour," said NBB CEO Joe Jobe. "Consumers can use biodiesel in their own diesel vehicles or home heating systems, buy products from companies that use biodiesel, ask for schools to use biodiesel and more."

"Our consumers are passionate about home and keenly interested in everyday practices for living green," says Gayle Butler, Editor in Chief of Better Homes and Gardens. "This exhibit extends our green coverage beyond our magazine pages and Web site, offering consumers a hands-on opportunity to learn realistic steps to save energy, and minimize their impact on the environment."

Hundreds of U.S. fleets already use biodiesel and approximately 1300 retail sites offer this cleaner burning fuel to consumers. For every unit of energy it takes to make domestic biodiesel, 3.5 units are gained. The fuel also reduces lifecycle carbon dioxide emissions by 78%. In 2007 alone, biodiesel's contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions was the equivalent of removing 700,000 passenger vehicles from America's roadways.

Biodiesel is a cleaner burning alternative fuel that can be used in any diesel engine. A domestically produced, renewable fuel, it can be made from animal fats or vegetable oils, such as soybean oil. The use of biodiesel in a conventional diesel engine results in a substantial reduction of unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter.

Here's the upcoming schedule for the tour:

  • Jacksonville (Home and Patio Show) – Oct. 2-5
  • Atlanta (Home Show at Convention Center) – Oct. 17-19
  • New York (Grand Central Station) – Oct. 30-31
