Trucks Line Up at New BioTrucker Stop in Illinois
BioTrucker Fuel Card Program Benefits Truckers, Motorsports in Chicago Area

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.– More than 50 semi-trucks, pickup trucks and diesel cars lined up at a truck stop in Romeoville, Ill. today to buy biodiesel at a discount. The Gas City station is the newest stop in the BioTrucker network of truck stops selling environmentally friendly, domestically produced biodiesel blends.

To celebrate their introduction into the BioTrucker network, Gas City today offered customers a savings of 50 cents off per gallon on the purchase of B11 – diesel fuel blended with 11 percent biodiesel. The B11 blend, common in Illinois, normally sells for about the same price as regular diesel fuel. BioTrucker is a network of more than 5,000 fueling locations offering trucking companies and owner-operators the benefit of purchasing fuel without a transaction fee, and at cash prices.

“The over-the-road trucking market represents 38 billion gallons of diesel usage a year,” said Jess Hewitt, Chairman of the National Biodiesel Board’s Marketing Committee, and President of Houston-based HYPERFUELS. “Every gallon of biodiesel they use displaces foreign oil, reduces emissions, and supports 50,000 green jobs in the U.S.”

“Gas City is pleased and proud to be the newest addition to the BioTrucker fuel card network in Illinois,” said Bill Schireman, Executive Vice President of Gas City, Ltd. “In 2006 we made the conscious effort to go green, and offering biodiesel to our customers helps us do that. Biodiesel offers great benefits, as a homegrown fuel reducing emissions and our dependence on foreign oil.”

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup racing series transport team was the first to benefit from those savings as they fueled up their trucks en route to the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Ill. for the race this weekend. The series’ Championship points leader and Chicago-area native, driver Timmy Megenbier, was on hand at Gas City with actual biodiesel powered race cars from the series.

Biodiesel is the clean burning alternative to diesel fuel that is domestically produced from diverse renewable resources. It is made from fats and plant oils that do not negatively impact the food supply, including soybean oil and recycled grease. Biodiesel is the best carbon mitigation strategy available for diesel vehicles. Last year’s 700 million gallons of biodiesel production reduced greenhouse gas emissions the equivalent of removing 980,000 vehicles from U.S. roads. Biodiesel blends can be used according to manufacturers’ suggestions in any diesel engine without modification.
